First edition of The National is published
The National is a daily tabloid newspaper that was launched in the months following the Scottish independence referendum in which a narrow majority supported remaining part of the United Kingdom. The paper supports Scottish independence and found a keen audience upon launch, selling in excess of 60,000 copies. However, within five years this had declined to an average of slightly more than 9000 copies per day.
