Opera singer Anne Sharp is born
Lanarkshire-born Anne Sharp was educated at the Scottish National Academy of Music and was a soprano at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London. Here, she performed in some of the best-known and best-loved operas, and she later toured with the English Opera Group, founded by Benjamin Britten. In later life, she returned to Scotland to continue singing while raising a family. She died in West Linton, aged 94, in 2011.
