Painter and etcher David Young Cameron is born

Glasgow-born Sir David Young Cameron was educated at the Glasgow School of Art and, at the age of just 24, was elected to the Royal Society of Painters-Etchers.

Over time, his work became highly sought-after as his reputation grew across a wide range of artistic disciplines, including drypoint, oil and watercolour. The Scottish landscape featured prominently in his work.

Later in his life, he became a trustee of both the Tate Gallery and Scottish National Gallery.
